My son knew Mrs. O'Connor prior to the opening of the Newburgh Learning Center. She could always get him to do his work, when others failed.  So, when I found out she was going to start tutoring , I was first in line. Our son has Apserger's (a form of Autism), so staying on task in class was difficult for him. At NLC he was taught as an individual and learned in a way in which he was comfortable and also fun. He might be playing baseball, but he couldn't hit the ball until he spelled a word right to earn it. What an incentive for him! The NLC has taken the time to find peer tutors and other professional staff that really enjoy the children. There is a great sense of "family" among the children that attend.  That is obvious when you enter the room. Learning has become fun for Ben and what better way to get a child's attention, than to do something they enjoy. Working with a child that has Autism can be challenging, but NLC has always been a great support to us.-Dolly & Tim LaBelle

My seven year old son was diagnosed with ADHD and was struggling in school.  We were referred to The Newburgh Learning Center by my sister as her two boys have benefited from the tutoring services.  I have to say I was so amazed how fast my son took to Mrs. O'Connor, she has a way of teaching and making it fun! Finally!!!  I have found someone who cares about my child as I do.  Ellen O'Connor has become a calming force in my life.  My daughter was struggling in school and I didn't know how to help her.  The Learning Center has a great location and very affordable.  My daughter loves to go there especially when she works one-on-one with Mrs. O'Connor.  She makes learning fun and will do anything it takes to help students excel.  I will be forever grateful.  Kelly Solis
